Maryanne was very happy with him, as he tried really hard.

Is that a Buffalo ? - Saturday, 9 May 2009

Jacquie and Maryanne have just sent through an update to let us know that the horses have been ridden 4-5 times a week now, and that they are good and settled with feed, weather and vaccines. Everyone is busy getting ready for the shows and breeding season locally. Cadabra and Glen Idol with Maryanne in the Saddle have been in daily tutorial with a couple of Canada's top competitors. They have began to work live Buffalo. (Yes Buffalo) Cadabra is a pro and Glen Idol seems very keen to track and work as well. All great news! Enjoy the photos of Cadabra 'Getting a little Western'. Cadabra's first show will be on the 30th May - Cadabra will be competing in the Ranch cutting. The horses are all working very well and continue to impress trainers and riders alike with their movement, temperament and working abilities. We will keep you posted on their progress.

Cadabra to cast his spell on Canada - Thursday, 7 May 2009

A partnership developed between Australia’s Maryanne Gough and Canada’s Jacqueline McArthur has culminated in the export of the first three Australian Stock Horses from Australia to Canada. The horses will form the foundation stock for the newly formed McArthur-Icewood Australian Stock Horse Stud and will be shown in Canadian horse events and will also perform in demonstrations. The two women have a simple goal for their venture – to breed, show and promote heritage bred Australian Stock Horses throughout Canada and North America. The Horses will be trained for Reined Cow Horse events (similar to Australia’s Challenges) with a flow on effect whereby the horses can go on to compete in many other disciplines including but not limited to Polocrosse, Polo, Team penning, Showjumping and Dressage plus Pony Club youth events. There is also the option of using the heritage Australian Stock Horse as an outcross for many other breeds of horse, an exercise that has proven to be extremely popular in Australia. CADABRA is a stallion well-known for his proven performance ability, stunning type and impeccable pedigree, and it is this combination which has secured his place as the first Australian Stock Horse stallion in Canada. From the McArthur family’s Alberta facility, he will stand at public stud whilst also being used in the ambitious embryo transfer programme planned for McArthur-Icewood mares. Interest has already been shown in this ground-breaking sire by some forward thinking cow horse breeders in Canada and North America, and only time will tell what role this young sire will play in the foundation of the North American Australian Stock Horse. Paul and Ros Ireland of Condamine ASH Stud in Dubbo, NSW bred one of the recently exported mares, CONDAMINE GLEN IDOL (AUS). A lovely black/grey filly by CONDAMINE RIVOLI GLEN and from a JOSHUA bred mare, Glen Idol has a beautiful nature and shows great trainability and working style. Paul and Ros are excited to be a part of this venture and have hopes of watching this filly perform in the future. CONDAMINE GLEN IDOL IS A PATERNAL HALF SISTER TO THE Icewood trained mare, JAYTEE ETERNITY – winner of multiple Champion Led and Working awards plus winner of the 2008 South Queensland Management Council High Point Four Year Old Maturity Australian Stock Horse. Glen Gough’s highly regarded Yallatup provided another mare, the athletic bay YALLATUP REGINA (AUS). Regina is by YALLATUP SIR REGINALD (YALLATUP REGAL REMEDY/KIRKBYS STUD REMINISCE) and from the mare Glen considers to be one of his best, WARRIGAL CREEK GIPPY. YALLATUP REGAL REMEDY is alleged to be Australia’s highest priced Australian Stock Horse and was a versatile winner of many awards including National Supreme Working, winner of multiple Campdraft and an Olympic display horses. WARRIGAL CREEK GIPPY was gifted to Glen by the past ASHS President, Alistair Irving who died in a horse related accident, and she carries the bloodlines of ELLIOTT’S CREEK CADET – FS, STANTON STUD CHANCE –IS and CECIL BRUCE – IS. This exciting venture has been supported by a number of Australian and Canadian businesses. Thanks go to Lyn and Ross Essex from Easy-On-Rugs, who provided the three horses with a lovely selection of their high quality rugs and products. Also to thank is Amanda Riordan of Australian Equine Exporting Services, who should be your first port of call if you are interested in exporting horses or horse related gear. In Canada, Dr Wayne Burwash is an equine veterinarian who specialises in breeding and embryo transfer, services McArthur-Icewood will require to achieve their many goals. McArthur-Icewood Australian Stock Horses are very thankful for the involvement and support of these businesses and in return will be promoting their services at trade shows attended throughout Canada and North America. As and end note, Maryanne still owns CADABRA, and it is unknown how long either will be away from Australian shores. It is estimated that CADABRA will not return for at least two years, however Maryanne will return to Australia for holidays and will likely fit in some competitions whilst home. Icewood has retained four broodmares, which are all in foal to CADABRA, and these will keep the Icewood name ticking along even with Maryanne away for a little while. 21 Horses depart for Thailand - Friday, 20 March 2009

AEES has just successfully completed a buying tour in conjunction with A.C.E (Thailand) Co Ltd on behalf of the Thai Army. Today a shipment of twenty one horses which consisted of thirteen dry Thoroughbred mares, four Thoroughbred mares in foal, three dry Warmblood mares, and two Warmblood mares in foal departed on QF7583 bound for Bangkok. This buying tour which started in Sydney on the 1st March 2009 comprised of three A.C.E Company representatives and a total of seven Thai Army employees including one Veterinarian and student. Our tour covered numerous kilometres, travelling as far north as Coffs Harbour and as far south as Nowra in New South Wales. We then promptly boarded a plane to Victoria and did it all again. A very weary, but pleased group were happy to board their plane back to Bangkok on the 10th March. AEES would like to thank Mr Toranit Sripal and the many horse owners for being so accommodating whilst presenting their horses for sale, with a special thank you to the horse transport companies and Instone Air Freight for making this departure possible. It was incomprehensible that we were attempting to inspect horses over a ten day period with the intention of purchasing, transporting to quarantine, and health testing to make a departure date of the 20th March. This short turn around period is a testament to all involved and especially the team at Instone for making this a reality.

Combined with the eradication from NSW this has been a significant achievement for the industry and government partnership that has co-operated so well since August 2007. ABC PM Program - Authorities hopeful horse flu threat over - Friday, 1 February 2008

Reporter: Brendan Trembath Authorities are hoping that they've seen the last of the flu, which last year infected thousands of horses around New South Wales and Queensland. There have been no new cases of equine influenza this year. Australia's chief vet, Andy Carroll, expects by mid-March he'll be able to say equine influenza has been wiped out in this country. The outbreak has hurt the livelihoods of many people who work with horses including breeders, trainers and riding school owners. BRENDAN TREMBATH: While horse flu may have been beaten it may take a while to convince some countries, which import horses from Australia that its horses are disease free. The Australian Government says Japan, Hong Kong and Macau recently agreed to resume imports. But Australia's chief vet Andy Carroll says New Zealand for example has reservations. ANDY CAROLL: There is a lot of trans-Tasman trade in horses. We're in on-going discussions with them to get the most practical conditions we can for those horses to start going backwards and forwards across Australia. Thailand and Singapore also have concerns about importing Australian horses. Amanda Riordan runs Australian Equine Exporting Services. AMANDA RIORDAN: The main problems I am now receiving are the international importing countries, a little wary of our circumstances, and just having to go through a few of the motions to see if we can get them back on track.

The Melbourne Cup is off and Racing - Tuesday, 6 November 2007

Looking back to my interviews in September 2007, I was obviously either very naive or trying to stay positive. It is now November 2007 and AEES is completely out of business with all Export Horse Sales either cancelled or postponed until further notice. The financial effects are starting to take affect and the prospects of holding on until the proposed resumption of Live Exports are not good. I would really like to thank all of my loyal customers and friends for their encouragement to keep going, but I must admit the pressure is starting to take its toll. I am not alone and really feel for everyone else out their watching their businesses and their futures fall to pieces. I have decided that this is the only news entry that I will make in regards to my opinion or the affects of Equine Influenza on my business and Australia at large.
